The combination of rich neutral tones, vintage rugs, and elements of different regions and places—the Pacific Northwest, the West Coast, and Nashville—makes the aesthetic of Lauren Lane’s home hard to name.
“I always struggle to find an exact name for my style because I really love mixing elements from different aesthetics,” she says. “But I think our home is traditional modern and perhaps a little California-inspired.”
Warmth and comfort were at the forefront of Lane’s design intentions for her Nashville home that she shares with her husband, country singer Chris Lane, and their two young children. And with kids, functionally and practicality were key: it’s impractical to expect books and toys to not take over the home, so they’re stored behind the couch for easy access. This aligns with her intention of having a home that feels lived-in: imperfect, with character and charm, and not always photoshoot ready.
“Creating a space that is actually functional for our family was really important to me. We spend most of our time in the kitchen and living room so I wanted those spaces to be really open-concept and comfortable,” Lauren Lane says.
Achieving the perfect balance of light and privacy was also on Lauren’s list of design priorities. After using Everhem drapes and shades in her primary bedroom and witnessing their transformative effect, Lauren Lane knew that she needed to team up with founder and interior designer Haley Weidenbaum to transform the rest of her home. With Everhem, Lauren Lane was able to customize her window treatments. She also had complete control over the budget, spending more money on rooms her family uses frequently and less on the ones they don’t.
For Weidenbaum, sunlight and neutrality were the biggest inspirations. In terms of sunlight, Weidenbaum decided that sheers were the best option for the Lanes’ common spaces. They keep the space feeling light and airy while providing efficient privacy. In terms of neutrality, trendy colors and patterns were avoided and Weidenbaum focused on what will withstand the test of time. When it came to window treatments, timelessness was essential.
“Trendy colors or patterns come and go but the truth of the matter is, window treatments aren’t meant to be the ‘star of the show’ in a home,” Weidenbaum says. “Rather, they are meant to complement or enhance the environment.”
Weidenbaum is confident that the neutral color palette of the Everhem window treatments make them a great option for any home or style. If the decor or style of the home changes, the window treatments can remain the same and still blend seamlessly.
The neutral palette isn’t abandoned in the children’s rooms, but sky blue water-colored wallpaper, fun prints, a cowhide rug, and animal decor welcome in just enough whimsy. Completed with Everhem roman shades, the children can sleep peacefully without being woken by the early morning sun.
There are also elements throughout the home influenced by Chris Lane’s musical background. One room in the house features a pool table, a velvety sofa, and black-painted walls adorned with mounted acoustic guitars.
When tasked with describing what she most appreciated about the finished space, Weidenbuam offered a Danish word with no direct translation into English: hygge. Rather than a definable, tangible thing, hygge is more of a feeling that can’t really be put into words. It’s the feeling of being so cozy, at peace, and content.
Perhaps one way to achieve hygge is by making a space entirely and authentically your own and by bringing “your individuality or current vibe into the space with accent pieces like art, pillows, and accessories.” Weidenbaum believes that the dining room is a masterclass example of this.
“The walls are wainscoted yet painted a rugged and refreshing green-gray neutral. Exposed wood beams and a natural wood table paired with chairs that have leather backs and linen seats, and Everhem pebble sheers covering the nearly floor length window give one the sense that they’re traversing a tranquil, cool forest of majestic pines,” Weidenbaum says. “A muted Persian rug, clay potted plants and a bistro style chandelier add eclecticism and quirkiness that make this room entirely the Lane family’s own authentic space.”
Weidenbaum advises anyone embarking on a decorating journey to never underestimate the power of quality window treatments and their impact on lighting and privacy. For Lauren Lane, Everhem window treatments transformed her house into a home
