I’ve shared a lot of spaces in our home here on Poor Little It Girl. From my office, our primary bedroom, entryway, and even the exterior – you’ve seen a lot. But one place I was hesitant to share was our living room. Considering it’s the space I spend most of our time in, it was never fully set up to work for us. It was kind of just a hodge-podge collection of pieces from past apartments. It was purely for TV watching and dinner eating (and Bowie napping) and that was about it.

I am so excited to partner with The Home Depot again for our house but in a totally unique way. Sure we know them for home projects and painting, but what about decor and furniture? It’s an amazing selection of furniture and finishings on their website that worked perfectly for our space.
As most of you may know, we’re expecting our first baby boy in the spring of next year. So maybe it’s my nesting phase and need to make sure everything is organized and ready for his arrival, but I wanted a full revamp. Adam probably is going crazy with how much I’m rearranging and redesigning everything in our house right now, but oh well. Baby Peshek needs it! LOL
As I mentioned, our living room was previously full of furniture from our last 3 apartments, both in Washington, DC, and in Atlanta. Meaning it had no design esthetic and certainly no functionality. For the baby’s arrival, and just for our own needs, we really wanted pieces that met all our needs. Deciding On The Best Home Décor And Furniture
I knew that I wanted to partner with a professional interior designer to come up with an amazing space using The Home Depots StyleWell and Home Decorators Collection lines, available online. Sure I love fashion, but interior design is not my strong suit. I worked with Rachael of Snow Studio to help make my countless ideas all come into place.
Rachael came over, measured the space, and really got to know me and our needs for the living room. No doubt the list of needs and wants I gave her was endless but she worked tirelessly to help create the most perfect space. Our biggest thing was that we wanted the space to be beautiful but also look like people actually live there. Nothing too dainty or delicate that it can’t survive a dog and a baby, know what I mean? Function meets fashion if you will. And she nailed it!
Before and After – Our Living Room Concept
Looking back at the photos of our living room a few weeks back, I can’t believe we lived like that for so long! Zero sense style or design, the space was purply functional for our needs of TV watching and couch napping, that was it. No guests felt welcome with that layout and ugh, don’t get me started on the lack of storage. It was bad. Rachael dove deep into the amazing online selection at The Home Depot from StyleWell and Home Decorators Collection since the room was basically a blank canvas.

While a great sofa, the gray felt just too harsh against our drapery and grasscloth wallpaper. The rug was so old and full of red wine stains and whatnot. Plus it was so thin, it felt like walking right on the hardwood floors. We also purchased that rocker last year hoping it would make the space feel cozier but instead, it was oversized and felt out of place.

It took Rachael only a couple of weeks to come back with the most perfect concept for us, using the best finds online from The Home Depots StyleWell and Home Decorators Collection lines. She really captured our esthetic and needs and did it all with The Home Depot products, can you believe it?!

After deciding on the concept and sending over a full list of StyleWell and Home Decorators Collection furniture and finishes from The Home Depot, it was time to get started! We placed all the orders for everything and it came quick and easy to assemble. To finalize the design, we shopped the rest of my house for candles, books, and any other finishing touches to make the living room even homier.
The Final Living Room Results
I mean, couldn’t you just die at the dramatic before and after shots?! The space looks so…grown up! We’ve only been living in our new updated living room for a few weeks but y’all, it feels like home. Like it was always meant to be this way. The sofa is a dream and Bowie approved. I also love those little side tables that pull under the sofa, perfect for having snacks nearby when binging Food Network.
What I really love too is, that now that the cooler weather has arrived here in Atlanta, the fireplace has become a focal point for our living room. I love lighting a fire and being able to really enjoy it in the ambiance of the space instead of it being just an afterthought. Thanks to The Home Depot, our house is finally feeling like home…just in time for Baby Peshek’s arrival in 2020!
