ILLIT is currently a new trending group in Kpop. The HYBE rookie is loved for his easy-to-listen music, cute image, and has the same development potential as senior NewJeans.
In just a short time of debuting with the title song “Magnetic”, ILLIT has built a solid fan community. The number of fans is increasing as the group has more widespread coverage.
On April 21, BELIFT LAB company (part of HYBE) organized a live broadcast for ILLIT on the Weverse platform. All 5 members including Iroha, Yunah, Wonhee, Moka and Minju interacted with fans and announced the official fanclub name.
Accordingly, “LILLY” is the name of the fandom (fan community), meaning it represents the lasting love between idols and fans.
As soon as the name was announced, ILLIT fans pushed keywords on social network X. Most people thought that “LILLY” was a cute name and expressed their expectations for the group in the future.
But amid the fun, controversy suddenly broke out regarding ILLIT and Lisa (Blackpink). The fandom name of the HYBE music group is said to be similar to the Thai star’s “Lilies” (Lisa fan community worldwide). “Lilies” is a common term related to Lisa used over the years.
HYBE’s choice of a name somewhat similar to Lisa (Blackpink) caused ILLIT to be criticized on social networks. A part of the audience also attacked the company, demanding more detailed research into the origin of the name before making a decision.
However, there are also many opinions defending the group ILLIT, saying that “Lilies” has not been registered by YG Entertainment or Lisa’s own company. Therefore, HYBE using “LILLY” for the rookie group’s fandom is not copying or plagiarizing.
