For the first time as a K-pop girl group, Blackpink showed off the power of Korean pop music by winning two awards at the ‘MTV Video Music Awards’ (VMA), one of the American pop music awards ceremonies.
On the 28th (local time) at the VMA Awards stage held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA, Blackpink member Lisa lifted the Best K-Pop trophy with her solo album ‘LALISA’.
For reference, the VMA is one of the four major pop music awards ceremonies in the United States, along with the ‘Grammy Awards’, ‘Billboard Music Awards’, and ‘American Music Awards’. Best K-Pop is a new category established in 2019 as the status of K-Pop increases. However, regarding the time when the Best K-Pop category was created, ARMY, a BTS fandom, criticized it as “a clear act of discrimination to not give awards in major categories to BTS.”
Lisa, who went on stage, was delighted and could not hide the honor of receiving the award. In her acceptance speech, Lisa said she first called “Teddy Oppa!” and thanked the staff who worked with her on her work. She then went on to shout out “Blink (Fan Club)” without forgetting, and she said she was so thankful for the love of Larisa’s song. As Lisa watched the Blackpink members congratulating them on their award in the audience, she expressed her affection in Korean, saying, “Thank you so much. Thank you so much for always supporting me so much.”
On this day, Blackpink also enjoyed the joy of winning the award. Blackpink was named the winner of ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ at the pre-award ceremony held before the main awards ceremony. Blackpink, who won two awards, became the first K-pop girl group to appear on the VMA Awards stage that day, and once again proved their skills by performing live a performance of her second full-length album ‘Pink Venom’.
