She is eagerly anticipating the release of her new Marvel flick Black Widow, which is set to hit theatres in May next year.

And Scarlett Johansson, 35, couldn’t contain her pride as she gushed over her six-year-old daughter Rose having the opportunity to look up to female superheroes.

The Hollywood star told Australia’s Marie Claire: ‘It’s wonderful to see your kids empowered and inspired by role models who are more than you could’ve imagined for yourself.’

Scarlett explained that having female role models in the superhero genre wasn’t an opportunity she was afforded in her youth.

‘The [female] characters were more like seductresses [in her childhood]. They weren’t empowered in the same way superheroines are now.

‘These characters are pushing boundaries and making things seem possible that were not possible when I was a kid. It’s progressive and fun!’

The two-time Oscar nominee added that her daughter, who she shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, would most likely pick the Black Widow over Captain America during a fight.

Meanwhile back in September, Disney revealed that Marvel’s Black Widow had been pushed back to May 2021 after scheduling in a November release.

The movie had originally been scheduled to debut in May earlier this year before Disney moved it to Nov. 6 due to the COVID pandemic.

Discussing the continued delay of the movie, Scarlet added to Marie Claire that while she has been left ‘disappointed’, she understands that there are ‘enormous things happening in the world that puts things into perspective’.

The star added that when the time comes she will be more than delighted to provide viewers with a sense of ‘entertainment and escapism’.

In the action flick, set for release on May 7 next year, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett) is forced to confront missions alone before forging a strong friendship with Yelena Belova [Florence Pugh] – who is also trained in the Red Room as a Black Widow.
