Taylor Swift’s statement ends speculation about whether the influential singer will share her political views ahead of November’s election.
“Like many of you, I watched tonight’s debate. If you haven’t, now is a great time to research the issues being discussed and the candidates’ stances on the topics that matter most to you,” Taylor Swift wrote on her Instagram account with 283 million followers on September 10, shortly after the Harris-Trump debate on
ABC News ended.
Taylor also touched on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, recalling that Trump’s team posted a fake photo of herself, edited by AI, along with the “false” claim that she supported the Republican candidate.
“That made me even more concerned about AI and the problem of fake news. The easiest way to fight fake news is to tell the truth. So I decided to make my intentions clear as a voter going into this election,” the singer explained. “I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election.”
The singer explained that she supported Ms. Harris because this female politician “fought for what was right” and America needed “a warrior” like the US Vice President.
“I voted for Ms. Harris because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend. I think she is a talented, steady leader and I believe we can achieve more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” she emphasized.
Taylor added that she was delighted and impressed by Harris’ choice of running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
“Mr. Walz has long been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and women’s right to self-determination (referring to abortion rights),” she added.
And finally, Taylor Swift affirmed that she “did her research and made her choice”, and called on “you all have the right to learn for yourself and make your own decisions” and “to participate in the election”.
