Tom Cruise has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to produce, develop and star in new original films or franchises starting this year.
This is a “strategic association” that will lead to the American star having its own offices for its production company within the company’s facilities in Burbank (Los Angeles).
“We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend of the film industry (…) Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio back to its glory days,” said Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy , co-chairmen and co-CEOs of Warner Bros.
A DECADE WITHOUT WORKING TOGETHER
Cruise had not worked in a production from this studio for a decade, since he starred in ‘The Edge of Tomorrow’ alongside Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton, achieving an international box office gross of $370.5 million.
“I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike and the entire Warner Bros. Discovery team, as well as their commitment to cinema, fans and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great films together ,” said the actor.
Among the Warner Bros. titles in which Cruise had previously participated were also ‘Risky Business’, ‘Magnolia’, ‘Rock of Ages’, ‘Interview with a Vampire’ and ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ .
The new agreement does not have exclusivity clauses , so the actor will be able to continue making films with other companies with which he already has a long history, such as Paramount Pictures, with whom he is filming ‘Mission: Impossible 8’ , or Universal , a studio behind Cruise’s new project under the direction of Doug Liman.
